Filling a display with nothing but white is the oldest and simplest screen test there is. No pattern, no distraction — just one flat field of light that makes every flaw obvious. Click Go Full Screen above, then check these four things in order.

  • Dust, smudges and fingerprints

    A blank white screen is the fastest way to find every speck of dust and every fingerprint on your panel. Turn the screen white, step back a little, and the grime that is invisible against a normal desktop suddenly stands out. Power the display off before wiping it with a dry microfibre cloth, then turn the white screen back on to confirm the glass is clean.

  • Dead, stuck and hot pixels

    Against pure white, a dead pixel shows up as a black dot and a stuck pixel as a coloured one. Go full screen, then scan the panel in slow horizontal passes from about 30 cm away.   • Yellow tint and colour cast
